Water Strategy for Polder Cities Designing multifunctional parks to manage polder water environments and mitigate flooding

Jianbin showcased a proven water management strategy for polder cities in delta regions by developing multifunctional open spaces and parks. These innovative spaces deliver a wide range of benefits, supported by real-world implementations, including:

• Managing water quality, drought and flood risks 
• Providing diverse ecosystem services while delivering tangible benefits for communities
• Using urban design and landscape architecture to integrate multifunctional water infrastructure.

The seminar built on RUCaS’ collaboration with BMA and Thai partners through the On Nut and Makkasan case studies. And it set the stage for a follow-up presentation in December 2025, to refine strategies and present practical options that can be implemented in Bangkok.

Participants included representatives from several BMA departments, including the Department of Drainage and Sewerage, the Department of Parks and other relevant BMA departments.
